What I did during Sandy.

Sandy had been expected.

Sunday night at 5 pm standing in the Park talking to freinds. I had just finished panhandling for the day.Waiting for mckennas Wagon a soup truck that visits vaiouse parks to feed us , the homeless. The first rain drops began to fall.

I went to where i camp. Setting there waiting. For whatever and went to sleep. In my sleeping bag .

At 230 am a worker with Uhomles outreach. Woke me from a sound sleep to ask " Do you want to go to a shelter.?

WHY THE ----you wake me up?" i asked. Rolled over went back to sleep.

Woke up. The next day everything was already closed.

And South americans were out buying boooze by the case. Speaking about No work and laughing about gringos.

Cops wee not stoping them from setting in the rain under umberellas with open containes. But they were harrasszing homless people who were mearly trying to make enough to get a sandwich or somthing.

I went down to tenth took some pictures of the fords theater . Standing outside with my pack on a guy walked up.

Would you like somthing to eat? He asked.

Yeah as everything is closed .

Hetook me to the waffle house. I have lived in dc for twenty years off and on. And have never been there. Becuase of the price.

The guy bought me me waffles at the waffle house on 10th. And they were closing early. Also,

while thee i ran into a man from florida who had missed the storm in florida but now was stuck in DC.

From there i walked up to 14th and g st nw. Where i encountered a woman named Mary. Who was cripled up setting under an umberella in a small door way.

She had no where to go. I tried to call a homless van same people who were so adamant i go to a sheltewr refused to ick her up. Becuase of the storm. Go figure.

I went to try to catch a truck and get somthing to eat .

The trucks were not running.

I found aplace to get out of the rain. With a group of people went to sleep . Actualy missed the howling winds and heavy rains . Though i heard them from with in my sleeping bag. While i was assleep had my camera stolen. These people will steal anything. Not nailed down so they can get their drugs and booze.

Woke up. It was just raining and nothing was open still.

"I tell you the Sas were right these yankees are lazy. " i comented to a freind.

Why you say that? " he asked.

"Down south we board up. But the stores stay open till they cant. Then if they can as soon as the wind stops they re open." i told him "We dont close for two days"

finaly i was able to get a cup of deacent coffee. And the clouds seemed to part and the sun seemed to shine. I was warm inside and had a hot cuppa.

Would saome one please explain how a storm like a huricaine that equires heat to survive. Was able to survive so far north to make it to shore as a cain? Im dumbfounded ive studied as an amature hurricaines. For over twenty years and never before heard of a cold hurricaine.

Though the storm has disruppted our lives for a few hours we continue in what we were doing before except for a few

the storm has not changed our lives.

October best month yet for this blog. Thanks Folks.

thanks to all my readers for making October the best month for readership in  the history of the washington word warrior blogs.  lets keep it up!
please folks let me know in the coments sections what i can do to improve the blog and  help you enjoy it more
thanks  Washington word warrior.
oh and happy halloween. or if you are an ET fan "happy hollowbean "

I survived Sandy. And im Mad!!

I’m alive . Yes folks by the grace of God. I survived the frankenstorm of 2012 (I can hear the boos) called Sandy. I stayed in a door way barely out of the wind. Along with my co protester Paul. We have both been maintaining McPhearson Square since the eviction by the Gov of Occupy.

Actuly because of the wind velocity there was acorner that stayed dry. And we were fairly comftorable.

I tried to get shelter for a woman who was cripled. And they wouldnt send a van. During the time Sandy was the toughest. To take her to a shelter.

The washington word warrior sends condolences to all those who lost loved ones and family during the storm. Along the east coast.

What made me upset is theivery was rampant during the storm . The www lost his camera witch had photos of the wind whiped rain and some trees down. (Please donate genorously to help recover the cost of a new one thanks)

The election is just a few days away and I wont be voting because there is no candidate that will help me change my living status.

trying my best to get real work. And no one hires me. Even to wash dishes. Among all these lobbying types who have money very few will even donate a hamburger.

The trucks, witch go around feeding the homeless in variouse parks.  shut down during the storm. Even though on Monday it was a light rain and the real storm didn’t start until Tuesday night.

I can understand with all the media blare of how dangorouse the storm might be.(ive seen worse living down in the gulf states) for them not to come out. On my walking around in the storm I encountered people looking for food. And a place to get dry. As everything had closed Monday. That was impossible.

A hot cup of coffee would have been nice.

Any meteoroligests out there figure how a heat engen like a huricaine could survive the chill wqe encounterd.?

I have never before seen a cold rain from a huricaine. Usualy a hurricain is warm and you could go out in a swimsuit.

Well all im over te next few daqys with a series of articals going to share stories of the homeless.

Folks I would like you to please when you vote vote for me . Because who better to represent those who are struggling to get by than one who has nothing and each daynis a struggle just to get a cup of coffee?

Thanks

Washington word warrior.

In the path of sandy

whew  made it through the night I couldn’t report because my battery died. Now I’m at Starbux. and plugged in.  the rain came down all night here in dc.  about two oclock when I was good and asleep a person im sure wth good intentions of earning his paycheck asked me.

“Do you want to go to a shelter?” He asked.

“No I don’t want to go and have my stuff stolen.” I told him.

it rained and I couldn’t sleep. Finaly in fell asleep and  then the store opened two hours later.

in dc schools are closed.

Gov is shut down. Dc gov is shut down except for  police and fire.

metro is shut down. no mail or trash pickup.

heavy rains are supposed to start about 730 pm local.

the eye is to transit the cost round delaware.

fema is assisting those who have money. and homes if you need to evacuate to a hotel. and of course putting Blacks and  homless and other minorities in shelters.

The Life of a Homeless Person

I wake up on a side walk like many do. Wet when it rains. A cold when freezing.

Pack my gear. Some mornings my fingers are so cold I cant tie a knot. Pick up my gear. Begin to wander , people assume, aimlessly as I dont have a job or home.

If yer in the service and reading this trash. Put it down to ,Education through school of hard knocks. I tell you Fuckingstay the fuck in. at least you got three hot meals and a cot in a warm room guaranteed.

Ill fuckin trade you your cushy military life. For mine any day the fuckin week.Stay in make them carry you out the gate.

I wander. Toward the park. Lately it has been Mc Phearson square. First ill stop and have coffee. Just like you heading to your Bignamed office. To slave away for the corporate system of slavery. Feeding aqt the troughs of the mightyassed morons who keep me and over a million people in poverty hell were the . point99percent.

I walk in. after putting my gear down outside the store.in a window where I can see it.

Get innline with you.

You will scrunch your nose. And look at me askance. Don't think I dont see. Hey just because I dont have a shower every day dnt mean I aint people too!

Some will put on a false smile like they are glad to see me. Standing in the great equalizer . A coffee lin

It does not matter whether you are prince or pauper you have to wait to be served.

And you think I stink? I cant breathe with all the perfume in the place. They even spray scented arasol around. Try that with empyasema.

Finaly Hi may I help you?” the countrer person asks. Smiling from behind a fake corporate mandated smile.

Large coffe please I say. They make me pay before they pour. Others its on the way before they pay.

Thenn handing it to me thank you for buying this corporate crap. She says from behind her corporate smile. And french accent.

I turn walk out the door and take a deep breath of fresh air. Set out in the warm morning summer air. To drink my coffee.

Setting for a few minutes first to watch the young girls walk by. Wiggling wonderfullly in short skirts and low tops. Running by with boobs bouncing teasing everyman nearby.

I drink my coffee. Pull out my laptop. Start writing.

I work in the mornings. After coffee. My job is unusual. Im a panhandler.

I set down on my rold up sleeping bag looking at the first person going by.

“ Hey can you spare some change?” I ask. Fit.Office suit type outThe woman wearing a high hemed skirt and low collar top showing lots of cleavage. Not unusual because of the three hotls close by.

“No cash. “o during see a panhandler and pull out their cellphones where I can see them. And hold it to their ear. Not even pretending to dial. Then say

“Im on the phone” just to ignore me. As they walk by.

Then during lunch. the workers. will walk by me with expensive meals stuffing their ugly faces with hamburgers and steak as they poass. Laughing at me. I even have one woman who almost daily would stick her finger down her throat puke and say eat that if your hungry.

I get people spitting on me. Throwing things. Handing me garbage they pull out of the trash. Even a fecis sandwich one time. “here eat this” say the blcks and Imagrants in DC.

Here white boy they say handing a couple cents. Like im less a man than they are?

Why don't I get a job?

Because there are no jobs to be had. If you dont speak a forignn language to talk to the boss. Even McDonalds is not hiring unless you speak spanishnhere in dc.

Finaly I get enough money . I go eat lunch.

And then finaly make it to the park .

Where ill meet with other homless people ,Smoke a joint. And get bummed off by others. and I will figure out what to do during the day. To keep me out of trouble. Wich is actuly quite hard to do when you are homless.

Some days it seems if you pick your nose . These people.call the cops. I mean howmany times have people pulled out their cell phones and caslled the cops for me rolling a ciggerette? I cant recall.

And let some woman come up being friendly. . I take her up on the friendly. And suddenly. Im a deviant.

These working people think we are all crazy and retards.

How many times have I been asked where is the liquor store? By tourists. To have a smart ass say what did I tell you all you have to do is ask a bum”

Just because we are forced by the economy to live outside the law a abnormal lifestyle. I m ridiculed.

My main reason for hanging out in McPhearson Square. is to maintain occupy.

Myselfe and Paul are the two people who have been keeping the square held by occupiers since the raid by the cops in feb 12.

Last winter was a relativly warm winter thank goodness. Usualy it is super cold here in dc.

Many people choose this time of year. to go to shelters.

very crowded. Almost liike warehousing. The people. . Wich the city does provide occassionaly. Now with the economy on a downward spiral the comunities are not able to fund the places as they have in past years.Though most people dont go there . The crime rate is higher. You are less likely to have your belongings. When you wake up at 630 am. At any shelter. To be kicked out in the cold. By the staff. Who unlike you. The Client. are paid to watch over you, make shure your belongings are safe. and are the most likely cause ive come to belive over the years of most of the thefts. From the clients. ( I am not sying all the staff are corupt just many. Ill also aqgree many are committed y my fellow homeless. ) Others because of safty choose to sleep out on the streets. I am one of these.people personaly.

It is these people I choose to share their stories. And concerns. With you. As we together travel across the USA in this time of revolt!

Just because im heading south does not meanni cant get back to washington if my friends want me.

Now ladies and gents ill be leading a halloween photo walk. Point and shoots only no hogslegs.

You know those big things people who want to impress you with the size of their wallet carry.

Meet at the park by the gas station on M street inngeorge town 4pm.

See you at the Georgetown halloween party.IMG_0001 (3)
